Working principle of drum chipper

Drum wood chipper By driving the cutter drum to rotate at high speed through the motor, the blade cuts the incoming material as it rotates with the cutter drum, cutting it into pieces. Qualified pieces are discharged through the mesh screen holes, and large pieces are cut again in the machine until they meet the requirements.

This device utilizes a combination of rotation and cutting to achieve fast and uniform chip processing of materials.

  • Multiple flying knives are installed on a high-speed rotating drum wheel (knife roller), which achieves continuous cutting through the combined action of centrifugal force and feed speed.
  • The flying knives are made of high-strength alloy steel and are fixed with special bolts and pressure blocks to ensure cutting stability.
  • Feeding System:
  • The upper and lower feeding rollers adjust their gap via a hydraulic system to accommodate raw materials of varying thicknesses (e.g., logs, branches, and boards).
  • The feeding speed is adjustable and synchronized with the knife roller speed to control chip length (typically adjustable between 20–38 mm).
  • Discharge and Screening:
  • The cut wood chips are discharged via airflow or mechanical conveyance. Qualified chips fall through the screen, while larger pieces are automatically returned for re-cutting.
